Water for All in Cantón Santa Clara

We’d like to end our journey with a small donation of gifts and school supplies for the community. This donation will be funded by the current team members and from anyone who would be so kind to make a small donation of any amount in support of the community and our project. Donate here!

EWB-DC began engaging with Cantón Santa Clara, El Salvador in 2004 to install an improved drinking water supply system.

Implementation began with the EWB-DC volunteers and the local community working alongside each other, building from the ground up. This project could not have reached this milestone without their partners including Rotary International, Catholic University, George Washington University, Peace Corps, and the local community development organization, ADESCO.

The process was a difficult one. Usulután, the city in which Santa Clara is located, rests in a rich agricultural valley and has very high and humid temperatures. Nevertheless, work continues throughout the years.

The community welcomed EWB-DC volunteers, and all others involved, with open arms and their appreciation was always evident in their warm thank you’s and sweet goodbyes.

In 2012, the drinking water system was completed, with an initial distribution network reaching over 200 households in the community and now totally to more than 300.

We’re happy to report that the system continues to grow! In 2017, EWB-DC completed their final trip and handed over the water system to the community.

The work in Santa Clara has been rewarding for us on many levels. From our first discussions of a community water system for Santa Clara to the functioning water system that has come to fruition, the project has been a remarkable journey.

We thank you for taking the time to learn about our project and we wish Cantón Santa Clara a prosperous future.
