The EWB-DC Cameroon travel team has concluded what sounds like a very productive and successful trip to Mbokop. They have started their long journey back to Washington DC by stopping for a last visit with some of our new partners such as HEDECS in Bamenda. It was difficult to piece together a substantial enough blog post from the various texts and brief phones calls. Those of us back here were sharing bits and pieces back and forth to make a complete story. Ultimately, we will have to wait for the team to come back and debrief the chapter and then hopefully share their experiences here with the rest of you!
That being said I think there are a few things we can say with confidence from the correspondence we received. Firstly, Mbokop was very welcoming and worked well with the team. The team seemed to really bond with the community. The community gave a warm send-off to the team as they departed. It does sound as though the community’s concerns about water sanitation issues were confirmed with some of the water testing. Hopefully this means that EWB-DC’s partnership with the community will have a lasting impact on improving the health and quality of life of Mbokop citizens. The team trained the water committee and left supplies for them to continue water sampling when we are not there. All-in-all everything seemed to go as planned, at least in the big picture. I could say more, but I think it would be best to get it first hand from the travelers after they have rested up.
